Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do we have to do to prepare the site for our tub?

The ground must be completely level and prepped with stone, pavers, or cement, and tamped down. Stone, pavers or cement should exceed perimeter of tub by at least two feet all around, this makes for a cleaner entry and exit from tub and aids in the longevity of the cedar.

2. What size tub should we get?

Please refer to this seating information page.

3. How long will it take to heat my tub?

This depends on the size of the tub and the initial water temperature but in general wood fired stoves heat in approximately 2-3 hours and electric systems usually heat within 6-8 hrs.

4. How do I clean my cedar tub?

Cleaning is simple, we recommend diluted bleach and a scrub brush. Both interior and exterior can also be cleaned with an inexpensive power washer.

Electrical systems have a filter which can be cleaned or replaced.

While you cannot use chlorine like a traditional pool there are natural products for monitoring and treating the water. We strongly recommend ECO ONE SPA and linked below is their Spa Care Guide, and the products that they offer. https://ecoonespa.com/pages/spa-care-guide.

Also, Nature 2 has mineral inserts for your filter, available on their website nature2.com or on Amazon.

5. Is my hot tub a kit that I will need to assemble?

No, Hudson Hot Tub includes delivery and installation in The Hudson Valley and surrounding area. Assembly and plumbing are included with your purchase.

6. What are the health benefits of a cedar hot tub?

A few of the potential benefits of soaking in a cedar tub are:

-Increased release of endorphins for a greater sense of well being.

-Increased blood circulation throughout the entire body.

-Increased oxygen absorption in the bloodstream for optimal energy.

-Decreased muscle tension, for better rest and relaxation.

-Decreased blood pressure for better circulation and stress relief.

-Decreased inflammation and muscular toxins for better injury recovery.

7. Why did the water turn brown?

Cedar tubs release tannins once they are filled with water. This is the same process that gives whiskey its color. The water will appear brown but is in no way harmful, and is actually very aromatic and uplifting. Progressively with multiple water changes the color will gradually disappear. Each tub is unique and will clear at different rates, some in a month or two, some up to a year or more.
